Saving For Her Future: Open Enrollment for Florida Prepaid College Plans || Tampa Mama

No Comments Florida, Raising Children, Sponsored

We have 4 kids that we hope will go on to further their own education one day. We have high hopes and big dreams that they will be successful, each in their own career, and of course, happy.

As adults, we can see things through the looking glass of time and try to foreshadow the future so that they might learn from our mistakes.

Paying for college is one of the burdens we hope our children will not have to bear. With Florida Prepaid College Fund, there are so many options that we as parents have to start saving for their future now.

I am always saying to my kids, “A little at a time.” In most that we do, homework, studying for tests, saving for a bike, my “little at a time” rule has helped ease their stress about being prepared or reaching a goal that might have seemed impossible to achieve!

The more we start to look at our financial future, we know that having Florida Prepaid College Plans for all our kids will be the best way for us to help them get a head start on their education. With so many plans to choose from, you can easily choose the plan that best suits your child and also even allow other family members to help contribute to their higher education as well!

Florida Prepaid is also providing Tampa Mama readers a discount to save 50% on your application fee for enrollment using the promo code BLOG1617.

We’ve decided to invest in the 4-year Florida University Plan. This Plan will help see our kids through their 4-year journey at one of the 12 State Universities.

The 4-Year Florida University Plan covers tuition, tuition differential fee and other specified fees at a State University for 120 credit hours, the amount generally required to earn a bachelor’s degree. Ranked in the top 5 in the nation for research and development, the State University System is spread across the state and features Florida’s two preeminent universities, Florida State University and the University of Florida.

And it’s easy to enroll! And prices are still low (as they will change from year to year!) Here is what you’ll need to enroll:

  • Open Enrollment is October 15, 2016 – February 28, 2017.
  • No payment due until April 20, 2017.
  • Be sure to have read the Master Contract.
  • Have your and the child’s Social Security Numbers available.
  • Have your bank account information available, if you would like to set up automatic withdrawal.
  • Have the driver’s license of the child’s parent or legal guardian to submit proof of Florida residency online.

We believe in our future and hope to help our kids start their future off on the right foot. They deserve it!

It’s always nice to see new neighbors reemerge even better and stronger than before. The newly remodeled Winn-Dixie Hyde Park store located at 2100 W. Free College? Where Do I Sign Up? Learn More About The Florida Prepaid College Giveaway |Tampa Mama

No Comments Education, Florida, Giveaway, School, Sponsored

scholarship-program_promoWith our oldest son turning 12 soon, my count down clock has begun to tick louder as college tuition seems to be knocking louder as his high school graduation seems to be approaching fast. 6 more years. Which in my world, it kind of like tomorrow. Having four children, and wanting them all to further their education beyond high school, the cost of college tuition seems to be a hurdle I am going to need to prepare for in order to set my children up properly for their future. Living in Florida, we have some amazing college choices for those looking to take that next step, but understanding the financial obligation and preparing for it is something that will be much easier if tackled years in advance. That’s why I have partnered with the Florida Prepaid College Board to help get the conversation started about college, how we can best save, options we have as parents and how it can effect our kids in the future. We all want our kids to be ready for college, but the question I find myself asking is will WE be ready as parents to send them financially.

Last March, the Federal Reserve reported student debt across the U.S. at about $1.2 trillion. Meanwhile, more than two-thirds of new alumni have debt, at an average of $35,000 per graduate. In Florida, the average debt load for those with college loans is $24,017. All I can say is WOW.

Yet according to the How America Saves for College 2016 report, only 2 out of 5 families have a plan to pay for college – even though a postsecondary degree is more necessary than ever for career success. According to state projections, 59 percent of all jobs in Florida will require postsecondary education by 2018. Do you have a plan for your children? It’s time we start really talking about ways to prepare them not only academically but also ways to avoid the student loan debit post college too.

More Than Just A Restaurant- Goody Goody Opens in Tampa, Florida || Tampa Mama

No Comments Dining Out, Florida, Lifestyle, Mama Loves, Review, Sneak Peak, Tampa, Tampa Bay

One of the best evenings spent with the Goody Goody family and GrandDad as my date to the hottest ticket in town, especially for the foodies. I was lucky to be invited to a pre-opening of the famed Goody Goody, established in 1925 in Tampa (see map below for locations back in the day) and now revived by the famed 4th generation Tampa restaurateur, Richard Gonzmart. If you’ve lived in Tampa or even visited, you are more than likely familiar with his restaurants- The Columbia and Ulele– with more plans to add more concepts to his portfolio soon.

A Father’s Day Date: Hard Rock Cafe and the World Burger Tour

No Comments Dining Out, Florida, Lifestyle, Multi-generational, Orlando, Review, Sponsored

My Dad and I rarely get to spend Father’s Day together. The distance keeps us apart on most years, but not this year. My parents were visiting for a week to see the kids and I actually got some alone time with my Dad one day while the kids were at school. I decided to make a break for it and head to a restaurant that I knew he would LOVE!
