Mama Needs A Break: A Cheddar’s Giveaway

15 Comments Dining Out, Tampa, Tampa Bay, Tampa Restaurants

Four kids. Work. Life. (I know… I’m getting tired just talking about my life.) Sometimes you just need a break. From it all. And after a long day of running around with kids, as much as I want to cook a home cooked meal, I’m E X H A U S T E D! But there’s nothing that I love more than my whole family sitting around a dinner table.

I love cooking fresh scratch meals and I’m really a good cook, but on a night that I just want to relax, Cheddar’s Fresh Scratch Kitchen is the perfect place to do just that without the guilt of not cooking. It’s just like being in someone else’s kitchen!

Cheddar’s Scratch Kitchen is growing the Tampa Bay area (with four locations) and we are so excited they are here in new parts of town! The atmosphere is warm and inviting and the tables are reminiscent of the ones in your kitchen. Everyone is at the table but this time, no one has to get up and my main job is taking, listening and sharing a meal with my kids.

As a Mom of four, cooking that ONE meal that everyone enjoys is like winning the lottery. I have a few of those in my reserves, but most of the time, I feel like a short order cook, cooking things to please the permanent guests of my home.

At Cheddar’s, the menu selection was impressive. My favorite reason: most everything was made from scratch, down to the ketchup at your table (low in sugar and just a few ingredients). If I had all the time in the world, I’d love to make EVERYTHING from scratch, but it just doesn’t happen like I want it to all the time, so I’m glad that there are places like Cheddar’s that take the time to make easy items like this because they know they taste better too!

My kids enjoyed browsing the menus and they too liked to know things were made from scratch. They do know that things “out of a box” just aren’t as good as from scratch.

We started with Onion Rings. Hand made with two homemade sauces. Delicious. The entire stack was gone in an instant.

The portions were large so we shared a few items and even took home left overs.

My kids literally cleaned their plates.

Parents feel the pressures of making the perfect home cooked from scratch meal and society expects us to be everything to everyone. But we are human. We only one person and we are always trying the best we can. And that’s always the most anyone should ask of us.

When you sit at the table with your kids, it should be a time to connect. Fresh, from scratch homemade food just makes the whole experience that much better.

My kids will one day be off to college, living on their own, maybe in a different state. I’m cherishing this time we have together because I’m sure to look back on it and wonder where the time went.

Tuesdays With Abby: Everything is Beautiful

No Comments Dining Out, Holidays, Raising Children, Sponsored, Tampa Restaurants

I’m launching a new series:

Tuesdays With Abby:A lesson in life from my baby. We’ve been going to Bob Evans every Tuesday morning for about a month and it just dawned on me that’s it’s now our “thing.”

“Mommy! It’s Tuesday! I so excited!”
“Why are you so excited, Abby?”
“Because we get to go to swim lessons then beck-fast! I lub Tuesdays!”

IMG_5700.JPG
Tuesdays. They have become our day. Our day to relax a little. Sneak away from everyone. Sit for a moment and enjoy a home cooked meal.
For me, I get to watch. Watch her play. Enjoy her her company. Listen to her life wisdom at the ripe age of 3. I don’t get to do this enough with a full house and life swirling around me like a tornado. It’s enlightening to watch your littlest one grow. As a parent, I know time is short. I will blink and she’ll be another year older. Wishing she could stay little forever, I’m cherishing the days I have left with my last baby.

She’s now 3 and growing more every day. Tuesdays is our day. A special day with her. We drop off the big kids. Then we swim first. Then we head to breakfast at Bob Evans.

“Mommy! It is Christmas and everything is beautiful!”

Yes, Abby. Thank you for reminding me to stop and look around at the beautiful holiday decorations. She’s been so excited each time we see a Christmas tree and lights. We’ve been so busy with the holiday hustle that we forget to slow down. The life we see each day is beautiful. Take a second to remember that.

Each breakfast seems to holds a new lesson that she imparts to me unknowingly. While we try to teach our children about life, our children end up teaching us what life is all about.
More to come on Tuesdays with Abby!

Thank you Bob Evans for sponsoring this post! We love visiting Bob Evans for breakfast. Good food is a symbol of love. Bob Evans’ delicious breakfast blend options and delicious farm fresh breakfast items are a treat for us when we want to spend that extra time enjoying those who we are with.

Sipping a cup of Signature Harvest Roast with hazelnut creamer and enjoying a delicious bowl of oatmeal and chatting with Abby is the best way to spend my Tuesdays.

Slow Cooked Meals from Bob Evans are Perfect For This Busy Mama

Thank you to Bob Evans Restaurants for sponsoring this post and thank you for reading!

I love to cook. I truly enjoy cooking a slow meal that we can all enjoy together. We go to the farmers markets on weekends. We cook together. The kids enjoy being a part of making the meal. It’s time we spend together hopefully making memories that my kids will  one day share with their kids.

But life with four kids isn’t always as easy a Sunday morning. We have homework, baseball practice, gymnastics, Girl Scouts. I work full time and so does my husband. I try to be mindful of meals by planning in advance, prepping them the day before and using leftovers wisely. But our kids have grown to really enjoy a fresh, slow cooked homemade meal.

I was introduced to Bob Evans Restaurants when we would travel with my family from Milwaukee to Tampa. I honestly haven’t been back in years, but that’s soon to change. They really understand me. They get I’m busy and just can’t do it all. Some days I need a break. Just a break to sit down, talk with my kids and take to work out of the delicious meal. Sometime is good to let someone else do the cookin’ and especially of the food will be just like Mama used to make.

The 3 course dinners now available remind my kids of my cooking and our Sunday Suppers. It’s nice to know that any night of the week, when school, work and life get to hectic, we can drop by for a visit where we can slow down, relax, enjoy a slow cooked homemade meal, just like I would have cooked.

My kids loved the pot road and the broasted chicken dinner. With so many sides to choose from, picky eaters can celebrate. Add fresh bread and a salad, and dinner is done!

A little insiders tip is to visit with the family on Tuesday because kids eat free with the purchase of an adult menu. (See store for full rules.)
I’ll definitely be signing up for emails and taking advantage of their specials.

It’s nice to know that places like Bob Evans are there to help busy parents like us. We can’t wait to visit Bob Evans again!
