Jump start your January and get 2016 off to the best start ever! It’s a brand new year which means a clean slate for turning over a new leaf and getting organized in order to function at optimum speed! I talked with Studio 10 Live host, Stephanie Webb on the first episode of the year about 5 ways to jumpstart your organized year!

Let’s first start with a few rules:

The biggest part of organizing is having things you love and use, getting rid of the rest, and then organizing what’s left.

Two best words: Clutter free. Don’t let clutter weigh you down! Clutter is a constant reminder of how scattered and unorganized you are being. Decluttering your space will lower your level of stress. A tidy space is zen like and can help you and your family relax.

Supplies needed to start!

  • Same color file folders
  • A label maker
  • Sharpies
  • Bins
  • Notepads
  • Garbage bags
  • Clorox Wipes
  • An “I can do this!” Attitude

5 Ways to Start Getting Organized

1. Get it together. Make a plan.

Write it down. Do you have written goals? Make a vision board! If you are reading this at your desk can you put your finger on them right now? If you answered no to these questions, you are not alone. A total of 90 percent of people do not have written goals. Writing down your goals does a number of things for you:

• It reinforces your commitment to them

• It helps you remember them

• It makes you accountable

• It gives you focus

2. PURGE!

The time is now. I find that I don’t need more space, I really need less stuff. So how do you purge? Simple. Set aside some time. Tackle one small space at a time (before you organize). Make bins or piles for TDRNR (Trash, Donate, Recycle, Not Sure, Return). Ask yourself questions: Do I need this? When did I last use this? Can I borrow or rent? Do I love this? Once complete, remove bibs immediately!

3. Start somewhere!

Anywhere! Do the thing that is most distasteful to you first. Where are you starting!?

Kitchen-

Get that kitchen under control! Reclaim your refrigerator! Wipe it down. Purge all the crazy storage containers. Go through your pantry! Buy one brand of containers so it all fits together. Do you need 15 coffee mugs? Clean out the plastic kid cups. But one per child and that is THEIR cup. Dishes. One set of 8 or 12.

Example shown: Tervis tumblers are our new cups in the house. One per person and the rest are history!

Organizational Flow-

A place for everything and everything in its place. Is your routine ready for action? Have kids? How is your morning flow or after school flow? Routines work! A few routines that I do to keep me organized and zen like:

1. Make me bed everyday. It immediately will declutter your space. In seconds. And can instantly set your mood to get ready to tackle the day.

2. Wipe down my sinks and bathroom each night.

3. Keep the clutter away before I go to bed.

It’s a good reset for the morning and your family will thrive in that balance too.

Clean Your Car-

A really good, deep clean. Stay on top of your car maintenance. My rule for my car is “No garbage left behind.” Every day we clean it out. All of it. I keep my necessary items in the glove box along with a smal box in the back that has jumper cables, my AAA card, my kids medical conditions, insurance, registration.

Office-

New year means new files! Organize by switching over to newly tabbed folders with a brand new color! It makes sorting through the mail piles and organizing super easy when it comes to tracking paper that can easily pile up! Online? Mint for those personal finances.

Schedule Organizing-

Writing it down, adding it in to your main source of organization will have you feeling so organized when new things pop up. Stay one step ahead of the game! Is your afternoon schedule organized? How can you make your morning more efficient?

Kids’ Stuff-

It’s everywhere! But clear bins or properly labeled boxes will help keep a place for everything and everything in its place.

4. Taking time for you!

Have you carved out some time for you? Made any New Years resolutions? Or what about time for you and the spouse to reconnect? Set a date night and remember it. Book a sitter (in advance) or have a plan worked out to kid swap so you and your best friend can get some quality time relaxing! Is there a class you might like to take?

It’s a new year and that can mean a clean slate. Look forward and get excited about what the future holds.

Example shown: FitBook

5. Realize that Rome wasn’t built in a day.

If you have the time to tackle everything at once. It gets overwhelming. And overwhelming can lead to discouragement. Try a weekly house cleaning schedule. Make a list with that ties into bigger fix items and then prioritize! What needs to be done first vs. what can wait.

Teaching Kids About Health and Fitness with Ringling Bros. Circus in Tampa

3 Comments Ad, Adventures, Family Travel, Florida, Giveaway, Sponsored, Tampa, Tampa Bay

Each year, we go to see the Circus! I am always in awe of the performers and what they are able to do! This year, they come to America with a 90-city tour, that begins here in Tampa Bay with their new show: Ringling Bros. and Barnum & Bailey Circus presents Legends! This show is set to let you eyes feast on fanciful and mysterious acts that will have you in amazement! This is still “the greatest show on Earth!”

My kids have visited the circus each year and it is always a new show when it comes to town. Never the same. Yet the acts in each show are just amazing to watch! They are all so talented and so athletic that I often wonder if my 6 and 10 year old gymnast will one day run away with the circus because they have a talent that they have learned from a young age!

I learned of a program that is supported by Ringling Bros. and Barnum & Bailey: Circus Fit! They have partnered with the President’s Council on Fitness, Sports and Nutrition to help children remember how FUN it is to be FIT! They have a curriculum that it is FREE and available for download so that teachers and community leaders can implement bringing fitness, nutrition and healthy living to classrooms and after-school programs anywhere!

Did you know that Circus Fit can help educators with lesson plans, interactive video clips, handouts and a host of additional support materials and information that will help you set your students or youth group on the path to a physically fit and healthy lifestyle!

My passion project, Fit Kids Playground, has taught me that fitness should be made fun for kids and coming from a clown, childhood obesity is no laughing matter! This is a wonderful way for kids to want to have fun, be silly and get fit all at the same time! I hope that more teachers, preschool coordinators or community leaders learn about this opportunity and curriculum that is available to everyone for free. It is a great way to head to the circus and talk about how all the acts use healthy habits to keep them doing the amazing things that they can do.

If you haven’t got your tickets yet, an insiders tip is that opening night is typically less in cost, but there is only one show.
There is also an additional add on this year! Ticketholders can purchase an upgrade and go backstage with a VIP Behind the Scenes Tour of Ringling Bros. and Barnum & Bailey. The backstage experience includes an insider look at props and wardrobe, an up close and personal encounter with the animals and a chance to meet stars from the show. Fans will also have an opportunity to take pictures and learn educational fun facts. To take advantage of this once-in-a-lifetime experience, just log on to ringlingbros.expapp.com from your iPhone or Android smartphone, and provide your name, e-mail and phone number to become a VIP circus insider.

This is a limited ticket and allows you access to a personal and once-in-a-lifetime experience that will have your family walking with clowns, petting elephants, shaking hands with the Ringmaster and standing in the infamous motorcycle Globe of Steel! How fun!

And of course, for any show, arrive an hour early for an All Access Pre-show that starts an hour before the show. Come down to the arena floor and meet the performers of The Greatest Show On Earth, get autographs, take photos and enter to win a one-of-a-kind pachyderm painting.  Take lots of pictures and be sure to show them off to your friends! It is really like you were a part of the circus!

We have been provided with a 1 family-4-pack for tickets to the Tampa Bay show happening January 6 at the Amalie Arena. 8 shows in all. We are so excited to help kids push away the screen with “the greatest show on Earth!”

Slow Cooked Meals from Bob Evans are Perfect For This Busy Mama

No Comments Ad, Adventures, Dining Out, Review, Sponsored, Tampa, Tampa Bay, Tampa Restaurants

Thank you to Bob Evans Restaurants for sponsoring this post and thank you for reading!

I love to cook. I truly enjoy cooking a slow meal that we can all enjoy together. We go to the farmers markets on weekends. We cook together. The kids enjoy being a part of making the meal. It’s time we spend together hopefully making memories that my kids will  one day share with their kids.

But life with four kids isn’t always as easy a Sunday morning. We have homework, baseball practice, gymnastics, Girl Scouts. I work full time and so does my husband. I try to be mindful of meals by planning in advance, prepping them the day before and using leftovers wisely. But our kids have grown to really enjoy a fresh, slow cooked homemade meal.

I was introduced to Bob Evans Restaurants when we would travel with my family from Milwaukee to Tampa. I honestly haven’t been back in years, but that’s soon to change. They really understand me. They get I’m busy and just can’t do it all. Some days I need a break. Just a break to sit down, talk with my kids and take to work out of the delicious meal. Sometime is good to let someone else do the cookin’ and especially of the food will be just like Mama used to make.

The 3 course dinners now available remind my kids of my cooking and our Sunday Suppers. It’s nice to know that any night of the week, when school, work and life get to hectic, we can drop by for a visit where we can slow down, relax, enjoy a slow cooked homemade meal, just like I would have cooked.

My kids loved the pot road and the broasted chicken dinner. With so many sides to choose from, picky eaters can celebrate. Add fresh bread and a salad, and dinner is done!

A little insiders tip is to visit with the family on Tuesday because kids eat free with the purchase of an adult menu. (See store for full rules.)
I’ll definitely be signing up for emails and taking advantage of their specials.

It’s nice to know that places like Bob Evans are there to help busy parents like us. We can’t wait to visit Bob Evans again!

Review: The Michael Jackson THE IMMORTAL World Tour by Cirque du Soleil

1 Comment Adventures, Opinion, Review, Sponsored

As the lights came up and the stage filled, the music started to take me back. Back to listening to Michael Jackson in my basement on a cassette tape. Back to buying CD’s and watching MTV videos. Good times. Great music. Now music that must live on by parents playing it for their kids, pulling up the videos and break out the record players. These new generations didn’t grow up listening to Michael. But listen to his music and you will open Pandora’s box of pop culture and a true legend. Now an immortal, but brought back through this show, so perfectly scripted, Michael might have just wrote it himself.
